Have you ever wondered how the homes of rich people from the last century looked like? These places might be old, nonetheless, we could still be caught by surprise by the designs that could be considered very modern even in the present. 43
To demonstrate an example, Semler residence can be found right on the Klatovská Avenue in Pilsen. This building was built roughly in 1920 for a rich businessman Oskar Semler and his family. The interior was designed by a famous architect Adolf Loose. 42
Furthermore, Loose was a very creative person. The outside of his buildings were built plainly, whereas the interiors were decorated in an extravagant way albeit very practical. Some of the designs could be found in modern houses from our time. 40
With this in mind, I was very impressed by virtue of his amazing taste coupled with his creativity. What caught my attention were the walls that were made from different colors and wooden materials. Likewise the armchairs were also each designed differently. His reasoning was that each individual has a different taste, hence a big variety of places to sit at. 60
Having said that, a big importance was also put into symmetry and practical use. The rooms were lifted up by natural light from big windows combined with mirrors. The furniture was built into the wall for more space and much more. 40
To summarise, I would definitely recommend you to visit the residence to see it yourself. Your attention will be immediately caught by the designs and you would not regret it. Especially if you like architecture, it’s a 10/10! 40
