Yesterday, on 9th November 2017, I visited the New Theatre to see the play called Midsummer's Night Dream by William Shakespeare with my classmates. I didn´t expect so much because I´ve already seen it in February and I didn't like it. But I was disappointed again.
I must say I'm not a big fan of William Shakespeare and I don't find his stories interesting. That means I was really curious how it would go and how I would like it in compare with my first experience with this play in winter. This is my first seeing of this play: Well, I was shocked. So many ugly and dirty jokes, disgusting scenes, weird “dialect” of one actor and so on... My theatre friend Terka had the same opinion. I didn't understand the plot at all. I probably should have said it first.
My second experience was little different. More laughing people, the actors made some improvisation for students, which I didn't like so much. I prefer “normal” version for adults. But nothing major changed. I didn´t understand some jokes and the plot too.
Today's Czech lesson changed my mind a little. I found out that the humor used in this modern play was almost the same as in the Shakespeare's times. There was a lot of hidden ideas and deeper meanings in the jokes I didn´t get.
But I still have to admit that it was just too much. I'd say that directors should have to make the play more strained. I don't want to see it again.
