The 49th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) was held from 6th to 15th July 2017 in city Nakhon Pathom in Thailand. The motto was: „Bonding the World with Chemistry“. This year, 76 countries from all over the world took part, from which 297 students competed. The competition consisted of two parts. The first part was the practical one, there were three tasks - spectrophotometry, titration and organic synthesis to be solved in five hours. The second part was the theory, there were five hours for dealing with eleven tasks from physical, inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry.

The other days of the occasion, visits of several palaces (e. g. The Royal Grand Palace), former capital Ayutthaya, farm and floating market were planned. A great experience was also the Thai food that I found very tasty, although a bit too hot. At the end of the IChO, the results were announced. I was awarded a bronze medal, the other Czech participants won three silver ones.

I truly enjoyed this event and I hope I'll participate in the next one.
