I had an opportunity, together with some students of kvinta, to take part in European Youth Event. “Youth” should be taken just loosely in a term, because the age limit to participate was 30, so there were not only high school students but also university students. The whole event took place in French city of Strasbourg situated on the border between Germany and France between 8th and 10th June.

Strasbourg is a picturesque city with beautiful houses in the centre, numerous squares and two sacral buildings: Saint Paul´s Cathedral and Notre Dame Cathedral, which was being built for more than three hundred years. Thanks to these sights, Strasbourg is listed among UNESCO Heritage Sites.

We visited both temples together with many other sights during a nice walk the first day. But sightseeing was not our primary reason to visit this beautiful city.

European Youth Event (EYE) took place in the properties of European Parliament Strasbourg where we could enter almost without any limits. Before we could take part, we had had to register and French volunteers gave us an arm-wrist so we could prove we belong to EYE and we could go anywhere. After the registration we decided to walk though “European Quarter” where there are headquarters on only of European Parliament but also of European Court of Human Rights and Council of Europe.

There were a lot of lectures and workshops, such as the one about videogames, about multilingual Europe, meetings of European Parliament, etc. the next day. We had booked the specific meeting long before we arrived. The language of all the meetings was English.

We all enjoyed this event a lot and I would like to thank your teachers and management that they allowed us to go there towards the end of the school year.
